The College Illinois! Prepaid Tuition Program began offering "SmartChoice" plans after
October 1, 2008. SmartChoice plans offer three levels of coverage – Choice 1 Community College, Choice 2 University and Choice 3 University +. Any College Illinois! prepaid tuition contract purchased prior to October 1, 2008 was not impacted by the program changes. University plans purchased before that date still cover tuition and mandatory fees at all Illinois public institutions including the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Community College plans and Combination plans also provide coverage of tuition and fees according to the contract type purchased.
